The following two scans are dated May 1, 1971. This train had originated
as BN #31, "The Empire Builder". At 1201am this date, all passenger trains
of those railroads taking part in Amtrak, were annulled. Those which had
departed before the appointed hour completed their trips as Extra Trains
on the host railroad. Having been annulled, they had no schedule. To reach
their Terminal at Seattle, Washington, continued movement required use of
train orders. Train #31 became (BN) Extra 9852 West at Havre, Montana:
